Fluance RT83 setup: 2M Red force, phono route and manual cueing
This RT83 setup checklist follows Fluance's RT82/RT83/RT84 manual and its Reference-series setup guidance. It covers the documented Piano Black / Ortofon 2M Red package; it is not a report of personally assembling this turntable. Keep the stylus protected during setup, use the current manual for your exact package, and stop if a part or instruction differs.
Choose the phono stage and speakers first
The RT83 does not have a built-in phono preamp. Use either an amplifier/receiver PHONO input or a compatible external phono stage. A line-only powered-speaker setup needs the external stage between the RT83's RCA outputs and the powered speakers' line input. Passive speakers also require an amplifier or receiver. Connect the turntable ground lead according to the instructions for the stage or receiver; do not substitute an AUX/LINE input for PHONO when no external stage is present.
Assemble the drive and tonearm components
Fluance's sequence includes installing the platter and motor-pulley cap, fitting and routing the belt, mounting the counterweight and headshell, and attaching the dust-cover hinges. Level the deck using its supplied bubble level and adjustable feet. When balancing the arm, follow the manual's exact cue-lever and counterweight order and keep the stylus from contacting the platter. Fluance specifies 1.8 g for the included 2M Red; the manual lists a 1.6–2.0 g range. Its support guide recommends matching the initial anti-skate setting to tracking force, but the exact setup steps in the manual take precedence over a generic summary.
Connect, select speed and handle the record manually
Connect the RCA and ground leads to the selected phono route, then use the supplied adapter as directed. The manual documents 33⅓ and 45 RPM, not 78 RPM. Raise the cueing lever to position and lower the arm; auto-stop is a platter-stop feature, not automatic arm movement. With it enabled, the manual says the platter stops about 30 seconds after the record ends, but some records may fail to trigger the function. Stay prepared to lift and return the arm yourself.
Verify the package and protect the stylus
The official Reference-series package list includes the deck, dust cover and hinges, headshell/cartridge, counterweight, aluminum platter and belt, rubber mat, bubble level, power adapter, RCA cable, ground wire, 45 adapter, pulley cap and manual. Check the exact new, used or open-box offer rather than assuming completeness. Fluance maps RT83's cartridge to the Stylus 2M Red and documents the 2M Blue stylus as an option on the same cartridge body. Before changing a stylus or cartridge, check Fluance's current replacement guidance and follow its alignment, tracking-force and anti-skate instructions. Care guidance recommends brushing the stylus back-to-front and avoiding unapproved chemical cleaners.
