Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the Debut EVO 2 connect straight to powered speakers?
Not if the speakers only have a line input: the turntable's RCA output is phono-level and the model has no built-in stage. Use a compatible external MM phono stage before the powered speakers, or use a suitably matched receiver PHONO input when an amplifier is part of the system.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I use the Debut EVO 2 with my receiver's PHONO input?
Yes. Connect the RCA cable and earth lead to a compatible PHONO input matched to the included Pick it MM EVO. If the receiver lacks that input, add a separate MM stage; a line-only input is not enough on its own.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the Debut EVO 2 play shellac 78s?
The current manufacturer page and matching manual list 33 and 45 RPM, not 78. Do not infer shellac support from the electronic speed selector; this exact package is not a documented 78-RPM choice.
Explore this need in the finder →The Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 is a manual belt-drive turntable built around a Pick it MM EVO moving-magnet cartridge and an RCA/earth phono output. Its system fit is straightforward if the buyer already has a compatible PHONO input, but it is not ready to feed line-only powered speakers by itself: this model has no documented built-in phono stage. The satin wine-red unit pictured here is a specific example, not a promise that every seller offers that finish or the same package. This review analyzes the published model information and matching manual; it does not claim listening tests or ownership.
Know which component supplies the phono stage
The current Debut EVO 2 product page and matching user guide describe an RCA output with an earth lead and direct the owner to a compatible amplifier PHONO input or separate MM phono stage. With an appropriate receiver or integrated amplifier, the turntable can connect to its PHONO input and the amplifier can drive passive speakers. If the system is powered speakers with line-level inputs, put a separate MM stage in between. Passive speakers still require an amplifier. The RCA plug shape by itself does not mean the output is line level, and the package should not be treated like an all-in-one system.
The U.S.-branded product record identifies the Pick it MM EVO cartridge, an electronic selector for 33⅓ and 45 RPM, dust cover and RCA/earth connection. The speed switch does not establish 78-RPM playback: neither the reviewed U.S. record nor the matching manual documents that mode. Pro-Ject USA's product information names ten finishes for this U.S. family: High-Gloss Black, Red and White; Satin Black, Wine Red and White; Satin Fir Green, Golden Yellow and Steel Blue; and Real Walnut Veneer (Satin). The satin wine-red manufacturer image is one exact example, not a claim about the finish of every seller offer. U.S. dealers may shorten some of those labels; check the exact finish, cartridge and complete included-parts list for the specific listing, particularly if it is used or open-box.
Manual setup remains part of the experience
The model is not fully automatic. The manual identifies a lift lever and explains how the owner handles the arm and sets tracking force and anti-skate. Electronic speed selection removes a manual belt-position change when switching between its two supported speeds, but it does not lower the stylus, lift the arm at the end or return it to its rest. The checked manufacturer page and manual do not specify a record-end platter auto-stop. The matcher therefore treats auto-stop as unknown, not as a supported feature. If the buyer needs the turntable to complete playback without manual arm handling, select an exact model with documented automation instead.
The listed body dimensions are 415 × 113 × 320 mm, or about 16.34 inches wide by 12.60 inches deep and 4.45 inches high. These values agree across the U.S. product information, current product page and matching manual. They describe the body, not the space needed to open or remove the cover, reach the cue lever, route the rear RCA cable or work around the power lead. A narrow cabinet should be checked for operating clearance rather than judged by the body dimensions alone.
What it offers relative to nearby choices
The EVO 2 is an option for a buyer who wants a conventional, manually operated 33/45 deck with a named MM cartridge and is comfortable bringing a phono stage from elsewhere in the system. Its footprint is smaller than the T2 Super Phono's conservative published-page footprint, but the T2 adds a switchable built-in stage and has a body-dimension conflict between its current page and manual. The Debut PRO B adds a balanced mini-XLR phono output and a supplied 78 belt, at the cost of more configuration and accessory checks. Those differences are more useful than treating the three models as interchangeable because they share a maker and belt drive.
Before ordering the EVO 2, confirm that the receiving input is a moving-magnet-compatible PHONO stage, or include the cost and space for a separate stage. Verify the seller's finish, cartridge, belt, adapter, dust cover, RCA/earth cable and power supply. Allow extra space for the open lid, leads and setup access. If 78 RPM, a built-in preamp or verified end-of-record stopping is essential, the published EVO 2 evidence does not answer that need. A full current U.S. Pro-Ject inventory has not been established, so this individual assessment is not presented as a complete survey of the brand's U.S. options.
Ten documented U.S. finishes, one feature set
The U.S. product sheet supplies the exact finish names; a current U.S. dealer selector pairs its shorter labels with individual images. I checked each non-wine-red image against that option record. The plinth changes appearance, including a real walnut veneer option, while the platter, arm and core operating package shown remain the Debut EVO 2 family. The reviewed sources do not document a finish-specific speed, phono, cartridge or automation package, so these are visual variants rather than nine extra functional recommendations. Image colour is useful for identifying the finish, not for judging playback quality or confirming box contents.
