Turntable connections: phono paths, Bluetooth and USB capture

Send record audio to Bluetooth speakers or headphones

Bluetooth-output matches document the turntable sending audio to a separate receiver; pairing, codec support and simultaneous wired playback depend on the exact model and receiving equipment. A Bluetooth input on a speaker is not enough—the turntable must be documented as a transmitter.

The Audio-Technica AT-LP3XBT manual describes pairing but cautions that operation with third-party receivers is not guaranteed. The Pro-Ject E1.2 BT sheet identifies an A2DP source/transmit route; the Sony PS-LX3BT is also a transmitter, not a Bluetooth receiver. Versions, codecs and output-switch behavior vary, so check the exact manual rather than assuming every speaker will pair. Find models with documented Bluetooth audio transmission.

Record audio to a computer over USB

Computer-recording matches require a documented USB audio-capture path; a USB power connector alone is not a recording output. A compatible computer and recording program are separate needs, and the supported connection, operating-system list and capture limits differ by model.

The AT-LP120XUSB manual describes its USB computer connection with LINE selected; the AT-LP5X also documents computer capture. Sony's PS-LX3BT uses USB Type-B for computer recording, not Bluetooth input or the separate service connector. Check the manual and required software before buying, especially if a particular file format or operating system matters. Find models with documented USB computer audio capture.

When the turntable itself must have speakers

Among the current U.S. matches, the Audio-Technica AT-FTT Hotaru is the model documented with speakers inside the turntable system; a built-in amplifier without speaker drivers is not enough. Its manual also describes line-level output for connecting an external amplifier, while the maker's product material identifies the internal speaker system.

The AT-FTT Hotaru assessment covers that all-in-one speaker arrangement. The Pro-Ject Juke Box E1 includes a power amplifier but not built-in speakers; a separate compatible passive pair is required for its speaker terminals. Find models with documented built-in speakers.

Internal speakers and a built-in phono stage

An all-in-one speaker requirement and a built-in phono-stage requirement address different parts of the system. The same configuration must document both; an integrated power amplifier without internal speakers is not a match.

The AT-FTT Hotaru is the model whose manufacturer sources document both internal speakers and a built-in phono stage. The Juke Box E1 has an amplifier, but uses a separate passive speaker pair and therefore does not meet the internal-speaker condition. Find models with internal speakers and the built-in phono path.

Bluetooth output and a wired receiver path are separate choices

Choose both filters only when you want a Bluetooth-transmitter model that also documents a receiver-PHONO route; this establishes alternative supported routes, not simultaneous Bluetooth and wired playback.

The AT-LP3XBT, E1.2 BT and PS-LX3BT illustrate the match, but each model's selector and receiver behavior still need checking. The AT-SB727 Sound Burger does not meet a receiver-PHONO requirement because its documented analog output is line-level. Find Bluetooth models that also document the receiver-PHONO path.

Pair wireless listening with an automatic record routine

A Bluetooth transmitter says nothing by itself about tonearm start, arm return or platter stop; combine these filters only when all the behaviors matter to your routine.

The AT-LP3XBT and Sony PS-LX3BT document wireless transmission alongside automatic start and end behavior. The Pro-Ject E1.2 BT is excluded from this combined condition because its documented tonearm operation is manual. Even for a matching model, simultaneous wired and Bluetooth playback remains model-specific. Find models for this wireless, full-automatic and auto-stop combination.

The reviewed library includes both right-hand vertical VT-E packages: the VT-E R without an internal phono stage and the VT-E BT R with a switchable internal stage. Their connection paths and arm operation should be checked separately.

A phono cartridge sends a small, equalized signal that needs an appropriate phono stage before an ordinary line input. The stage may be inside a receiver, inside the turntable, in a powered speaker, or in a separate component. Choose one complete route; do not connect a line-level output into another PHONO input unless that equipment's instructions specifically call for it.

Receiver or integrated amplifier with PHONO

The E1 Standard sends its AT3600L phono-level output to a compatible MM PHONO input; E1 Phono and E1 BT use that route only with their selector at PHONO, bypassing the internal MM stage. The cartridge is moving-magnet, so an MC-only input is not the relevant match. Compare the E1 Standard, E1 Phono and E1 BT reviews. Find models for this same receiver PHONO condition.

The X2 B Quintet Red uses a moving-coil cartridge and fits a receiver-PHONO route only when the input supports that cartridge; an MM-only PHONO input is insufficient. Compare the Debut PRO S Balanced and XA B for other documented phono-level routes. Find models for this same receiver PHONO condition.

The phono-output Debut Reference 10 can use a compatible receiver PHONO input. The three Sony models have switchable MM stages and must be set to PHONO; LX3BT and LX310BT have fixed RCA leads, while LX5BT uses separate output jacks and a detachable cable. Find models for this receiver PHONO path · Debut Reference 10 assessment.

The phono-output Debut Reference 10 provides a receiver-PHONO path. The A1.2 fits when its switchable internal MM stage is off and the receiver supports the supplied OM10; the no-stage A2 needs a receiver input compatible with the U.S.-listed Sumiko Rainier. AT-LPA2 and AT-LP8X join the LP5X, older LP7, LP7X, LP120XUSB pair, LP70X pair, LP3XBT, LPW models and three LP60X-family models on documented PHONO routes; LP140XP has phono-level output without an internal stage. RT80, RT81 and RT81+ can bypass their built-in stages, while later Fluance models have phono-level output without an internal stage. T2 Super Phono must be set to PHONO to bypass its selectable MM stage; Debut PRO B and Debut EVO 2 use phono-level RCA outputs without built-in stages. The AT-LPA2 is conditional: its supplied 0.35 mV AT-OC9XEN moving-coil cartridge requires an MC-capable receiver, not MM-only. LP120XBT-USB's Bluetooth route does not replace its analog PHONO connection. Sound Burger and AT-FTT Hotaru have built-in stages and already-equalized line output, so they do not use this receiver-PHONO path. Find models for this same receiver-PHONO condition.

The five current Orbit Basic, Orbit Plus, Orbit Special, Orbit Custom and Orbit Theory fit this route only when the exact optional built-in stage is set to None. The configurable Custom supports the same route only in that selected no-stage state; check its chosen cartridge and your receiver's moving-magnet support. The distinct Plus Gen 1 supports receiver PHONO with black no-stage SKU 100BKAOR5; its separate built-in SKU 160BKAOR5 is not the same configuration. If an internal stage is enabled, use a line input instead of PHONO. Confirm the selector on the actual offer. Theory’s installed 2M cartridge is a moving-magnet package, so the receiver input must support it.

Connect the exact model's supplied analog lead to that PHONO input and follow its manual's grounding instructions. The receiver supplies the phono stage and drives the speakers. PHONO is not interchangeable with AUX/LINE; confirm input compatibility and output setting. The AT-LPA2 is an important compatibility exception: use the receiver path only if the PHONO input supports its 0.35 mV moving-coil cartridge; an MM-only input is not enough. The AT-LP8X has a conventional MM PHONO-level route but no built-in stage. The AT-LP5X provides selectable PHONO output as well as separate USB-computer capture; the AT-LP140XP-BK is PHONO-only and needs a compatible input or separate stage. The older AT-LP7 is a two-speed built-in-stage model distinct from LP7X. The four LPW reviews—LPW30BK, LPW40WN, LPW50PB and LPW50BT-RW—cover manual two-speed decks whose selector supplies the same analog route; only the last also documents Bluetooth. Compare the AT-LP120XUSB-BK, AT-LP120XBT-USB-USBBK, AT-LP7X, AT-LP70X-BG, AT-LP70XBT-BS, AT-LP3XBT-BK, AT-LP60X-BK, AT-LP60XBT-BK, AT-LP60XBT-USB, RT80, RT81, RT81+, RT82, RT83, current RT84, RT85, RT85N, RT87 with 2M Blue and RT87 with AT-VM95ML. The LP60X is wired only, LP60XBT adds Bluetooth, and LP60XBT-USB adds USB computer capture; the LP120XUSB pair both provide USB capture as a separate route. See the LPW comparison for setup distinctions among the four manual models.

Find models for a receiver PHONO input

Four E1.2 packages have a documented MM receiver-PHONO route: Standard uses phono-level output, while Phono, BT and BT Colour must be set to PHONO to bypass their internal MM stage. All include Pick it MM E moving-magnet cartridges. Read the separate assessments: E1.2 Standard · E1.2 Phono · E1.2 Bt · E1.2 Bt Colour. Find models for this exact phono route.

The VT-E R has a phono-level RCA output and no built-in stage; the VT-E BT R has a separate PHONO output that bypasses its built-in stage. The former suits a compatible MM receiver PHONO input directly; the latter uses its separate PHONO output for that same route. Its LINE output must not go into PHONO. Read the VT-E R assessment and VT-E BT R assessment. Find models for this exact receiver-PHONO condition.

The RPM 1 Carbon Rainier, RPM 3 Carbon Moonstone and RPM 5 Carbon Amethyst packages all send MM phono-level output and can feed an MM-compatible receiver PHONO input. RPM 1 has separately observed Gloss Black and White items with the same function; RPM 3 is the observed White/Moonstone package and its seller/manufacturer width figures differ. Compare the RPM 1 Carbon assessment, RPM 3 Carbon assessment and RPM 5 Carbon assessment. Find models for this same MM receiver-PHONO condition.

The standard T2's factory-pre-adjusted Sumiko Rainier MM cartridge sends phono-level output to a compatible receiver PHONO input; it has no documented built-in stage. Read the standard T2 assessment and confirm the receiver input supports MM. Find the same receiver-PHONO route.

The U.S.-facing RPM 9 Carbon no-cartridge item can use a receiver PHONO input only after the buyer supplies and fits a cartridge the receiver supports; the deck has no internal stage. Do not read its bare headshell as a factory cartridge package. Read the RPM 9 no-cartridge assessment. Find the same receiver-PHONO route.

The no-cartridge RPM 10 needs a buyer-supplied cartridge supported by receiver PHONO; the separate Starling package requires low-output MC gain and a load above 100 ohms, so MM-only PHONO is not a match. Both U.S.-facing packages lack an internal phono stage. Read the no-cartridge RPM 10 assessment and Starling variant assessment. Find the same receiver-PHONO route. The white VT-E L is left-handed; Pro-Ject USA’s exact L manual confirms the fitted OM5E and instructs use of a compatible PHONO input or an external phono stage. Check that the offered package is actually L White and that the receiver input is compatible with an MM cartridge. See the VT-E L White assessment.

Pro-Ject X8 Evolution: route the Moonstone signal correctly

This X8 Evolution package includes a Moonstone MM cartridge and no built-in stage, so a receiver route needs a compatible MM PHONO input. The exact U.S.-facing 6PerspeX Balanced / Pick it MC3 package also has no built-in stage, but its supplied moving-coil cartridge requires an MC-compatible receiver PHONO input. The Metallica, AC/DC and Harley-Davidson Artist Collection packages each pair a fitted MM cartridge with documented phono-level output and no built-in stage, so use compatible MM PHONO; Harley connects through the supplied 5P/RCA cable. Read the X8 Evolution assessment, 6PerspeX MC3 assessment, Metallica assessment, AC/DC assessment and Harley-Davidson assessment. Find models for the same receiver-PHONO requirement.

For the X8's Moonstone MM output and powered speakers, put a compatible MM phono stage before the speakers' LINE/AUX input; the deck itself has none. The separate 6PerspeX Balanced MC3 package needs an MC-compatible external stage before powered-speaker LINE; a true-balanced route also needs its own mini-XLR cable and balanced MC input. Metallica, AC/DC and Harley-Davidson each need a compatible MM phono stage before powered-speaker LINE; Harley's supplied 5P/RCA cable does not add one. Read the X8 Evolution assessment, 6PerspeX MC3 assessment, Metallica assessment, AC/DC assessment and Harley-Davidson assessment. Find the same external-stage-to-powered-speaker route.

With passive speakers, route the X8's Moonstone phono output through a compatible MM phono stage, then to amplifier LINE/AUX; the amplifier supplies speaker power. The 6PerspeX Balanced MC3 instead requires an MC-compatible external stage before amplifier LINE/AUX, with the amplifier powering the passive pair. Metallica, AC/DC and Harley-Davidson need a compatible MM stage followed by amplifier LINE/AUX; the amplifier remains necessary to drive passive speakers. Read the X8 Evolution assessment, 6PerspeX MC3 assessment, Metallica assessment, AC/DC assessment and Harley-Davidson assessment. Find the same external-stage, amplifier and passive-speaker route.

The X8 Evolution Moonstone has no built-in phono stage and is excluded from a built-in-only requirement; the 6PerspeX Balanced MC3 is also an external-stage package, not a built-in-preamp option. None of the Metallica, AC/DC or Harley-Davidson Artist Collection packages has a built-in phono stage, so none meets this requirement. The switchable-stage T2 Super Phono and E1 Phono are documented alternatives. Find models for the same built-in-stage-only condition.

Separate phono stage with powered speakers

Choose a cartridge-compatible phono stage before a powered speaker's LINE input. The E1 Standard has no built-in stage; E1 Phono and E1 BT can use an external stage only with their selectors at PHONO, bypassing their switchable MM stages. All three packages use AT3600L moving-magnet cartridges. Compare the E1 Standard, E1 Phono and E1 BT assessments, and check the speaker's input and grounding path. Find models for this same external-stage and powered-speaker condition.

The X2 B Quintet Red has no built-in stage and its supplied moving-coil cartridge calls for an MC-compatible stage before speaker LINE; an MM-only stage is not a substitute. The Debut PRO S Balanced and XA B are other no-stage routes, but check each exact cartridge and stage compatibility. Find models for this same external-stage and powered-speaker condition.

For switchable turntables, use PHONO before the separate stage: this applies to Sony PS-LX3BT, PS-LX5BT and PS-LX310BT, as well as T1 EVO Phono and BT; T1 EVO Standard and Debut Reference 10 have phono-level output. The Sony output selector prevents sending its built-in stage into another phono stage. Read the PS-LX3BT, PS-LX5BT, PS-LX310BT, T1 EVO Standard, T1 EVO Phono, T1 EVO BT and Debut Reference 10 assessments. Find models for this separate-stage powered-speaker path.

The A1.2 can feed an external MM stage only with its switchable internal stage off; the no-stage A2 needs a separate MM stage. The AT-LPA2's supplied 0.35 mV moving-coil cartridge requires MC compatibility or a suitable step-up; the AT-LP8X uses an MM cartridge. The LP5X and older LP7 can select PHONO to bypass their built-in stages; the LP140XP has phono-level output without an internal stage. The T2 Super Phono can bypass its switchable MM stage in PHONO mode, while the Debut PRO B and Debut EVO 2 require an external stage. The LP60X family, both reviewed LP120X models and all four LPW packages can also bypass built-in stages by selecting PHONO before the separate stage; LINE is the direct alternative for powered speakers that accept a suitable line input. The Sound Burger and AT-FTT Hotaru already provide equalized LINE output, so they are not separate-stage setups.

The current Orbit Basic, Orbit Plus, Orbit Special, Orbit Custom and Orbit Theory can join this setup only with the exact optional internal stage set to None. Custom's matching no-stage plan sends its cartridge signal to an external phono stage before powered-speaker line input. The distinct Orbit Plus Gen 1 uses the same separate-stage route only on its Black / None SKU 100BKAOR5; its Built-in SKU 160BKAOR5 is a different phono plan. With a built-in stage enabled, send line output directly to the speaker's line input rather than through another phono stage.

For a deck without its own stage, connect turntable → external phono preamp → powered-speaker line input. Follow the external preamp's cartridge and grounding instructions and check whether the exact deck includes a ground lead. The AT-LPA2's 0.35 mV MC cartridge needs an MC-compatible stage or transformer; the AT-LP8X needs an appropriate stage but its included cartridge uses MM. The LP140XP has PHONO-only output; the LP5X and older LP7, like the LPW models, have selectable PHONO output that bypasses their built-in stage. Each LPW is switchable, and its manual arm operation is unchanged by the LPW50BT-RW's Bluetooth output. Compare AT-LPA2, AT-LP8X, AT-LP5X, AT-LP140XP-BK, the older AT-LP7, the LPW30BK, LPW40WN, LPW50PB and LPW50BT-RW. Also see the AT-LP120XUSB-BK, AT-LP120XBT-USB-USBBK, AT-LP7X, AT-LP70X-BG, AT-LP70XBT-BS, AT-LP3XBT-BK, AT-LP60X-BK, AT-LP60XBT-BK, AT-LP60XBT-USB, RT80, RT81, RT81+, RT82, RT83, current RT84, RT85, RT85N, RT87 with 2M Blue and RT87 with AT-VM95ML. Bluetooth and USB remain separate destinations, not substitutes for the phono-stage path.

Find models for a separate stage and powered speakers

All four reviewed E1.2 packages support an external MM stage before powered-speaker LINE input: Standard requires the external stage, while Phono, BT and BT Colour must be set to PHONO so the internal stage is bypassed. Read the separate assessments: E1.2 Standard · E1.2 Phono · E1.2 Bt · E1.2 Bt Colour. Find models for this exact phono route.

Both right-hand VT-E packages can feed an external MM phono stage before powered-speaker LINE: standard VT-E R needs that stage, while VT-E BT R should use its separate PHONO output to bypass its own stage. Its LINE output is already equalized and should not be sent through a second phono stage. Read the VT-E R assessment and VT-E BT R assessment. Find models for this exact external-stage powered-speaker route.

All three RPM packages need an external MM phono stage before powered-speaker LINE; none has an internal stage. This is not a direct turntable-to-line-speaker connection. Read the RPM 1 Carbon, RPM 3 Carbon and RPM 5 Carbon system assessments. Find models for this exact external-MM-stage and powered-speaker condition.

The standard T2's phono-level MM output can feed powered speakers only through a separate compatible phono stage and the speakers' LINE input; the deck itself does not supply that stage. See the standard T2 review. Find this same external-stage-to-powered-speaker route.

For a manually cued T2 and powered speakers, put a compatible MM stage between the phono-level output and speaker LINE input; the speed button does not automate the arm. Read the standard T2 assessment. Find this exact powered-speaker and manual-cueing combination.

The RPM 9 no-cartridge item can feed powered speakers only after the buyer adds an external phono stage ahead of LINE, then chooses and installs a cartridge matched to that stage. It has neither a supplied cartridge nor an internal preamp. Read the RPM 9 no-cartridge assessment. Find this same external-stage/powered-speaker route.

The RPM 10 has no built-in stage: add a compatible phono stage before powered-speaker LINE; Sumiko Starling specifically needs low-output MC gain and suitable loading. For the no-cartridge version, the cartridge is also buyer-supplied. See the no-cartridge review and Starling review. Find this same external-stage/powered-speaker path. The exact VT-E L manual confirms the no-stage, phono-level MM route; a compatible external MM stage can precede powered-speaker LINE. The U.S.-facing family page names OM5E but does not establish a separate L White cart item or its box contents. Read the VT-E L White assessment.

Separate phono stage, amplifier and passive speakers

For passive speakers, the phono stage must feed an amplifier LINE/AUX input; the amplifier, not the turntable or phono stage, powers the speakers. E1 Standard requires the separate stage, while E1 Phono and E1 BT must be switched to PHONO to bypass their built-in MM stages before it. Compare the E1 Standard, E1 Phono and E1 BT reviews. Find models for this same external-stage, amplifier and passive-speaker condition.

The X2 B Quintet Red needs an MC-compatible stage before the amplifier, which still powers passive speakers; the Debut PRO S Balanced and XA B are other no-stage arrangements. Match the preamp to the exact cartridge before connecting the stage's LINE output to the amplifier. Find models for this same external-stage, amplifier and passive-speaker condition.

On Sony PS-LX3BT, PS-LX5BT and PS-LX310BT, select PHONO before the separate stage; its LINE output then feeds the amplifier, which drives the speakers. The same PHONO bypass applies to the T1 EVO Phono and BT packages. Read the PS-LX3BT, PS-LX5BT, PS-LX310BT, T1 EVO Standard, T1 EVO Phono, T1 EVO BT and Debut Reference 10 assessments. Find models for this separate-stage passive-speaker path.

The A1.2 follows this route with its switchable internal MM stage turned off; the external stage feeds amplifier LINE. The A2 has no built-in stage, so route its Rainier MM output through a separate MM stage into amplifier LINE/AUX. The AT-LPA2 needs an MC-capable stage or step-up for its 0.35 mV cartridge; the AT-LP8X uses an MM-compatible stage. The T2 Super Phono must be set to PHONO to bypass its switchable stage; the Debut PRO B and Debut EVO 2 send phono-level output to that external stage. The built-in-stage Sound Burger and all-in-one AT-FTT Hotaru instead supply LINE output and are outside this separate-stage answer.

The current U-Turn Basic, Plus, Special, Custom and Theory support this path when the exact offer is configured without the optional built-in Pluto 2 stage. Custom's no-stage configuration needs an external phono stage before an amplifier's LINE/AUX input; passive speakers still require that amplifier. The separate Orbit Plus Gen 1 supports it only with Black / None SKU 100BKAOR5; its built-in SKU 160BKAOR5 instead uses LINE output. If a built-in stage is enabled, connect line output to the amplifier’s LINE/AUX input without another phono stage.

Use turntable → external phono stage → AUX/LINE input on the amplifier → passive speakers. The stage handles cartridge equalization; the amplifier supplies speaker power. The LP5X and older LP7 select PHONO to bypass their built-in stages; the LP140XP-BK provides phono-level output without a selector or internal stage. The four LPW30BK, LPW40WN, LPW50PB and LPW50BT-RW models are also switchable and use PHONO into the external stage. Other documented analog options are the AT-LP120XUSB-BK, AT-LP120XBT-USB-USBBK, AT-LP7X, AT-LP70X-BG, AT-LP70XBT-BS, AT-LP3XBT-BK, AT-LP60X-BK, AT-LP60XBT-BK, AT-LP60XBT-USB, RT80, RT81, RT81+, RT82, RT83, current RT84, RT85, RT85N, RT87 with 2M Blue and RT87 with AT-VM95ML. Bluetooth and USB are separate destinations, not substitutes for the phono-stage path.

Find models for a separate stage and an amplifier with passive speakers

All four reviewed E1.2 packages support an external MM stage followed by an amplifier LINE/AUX input for passive speakers; Standard needs the stage, while Phono, BT and BT Colour must be set to PHONO to bypass theirs. Read the separate assessments: E1.2 Standard · E1.2 Phono · E1.2 Bt · E1.2 Bt Colour. Find models for this exact phono route.

Both right-hand VT-E packages support a compatible MM phono stage ahead of amplifier LINE/AUX and passive speakers. VT-E R has phono-level output only; VT-E BT R should use its separate PHONO output to bypass the built-in stage. A phono stage is not a power amplifier, so passive speakers still need one. Read the VT-E R assessment and VT-E BT R assessment. Find models for this exact stage-plus-amplifier route.

All three RPM packages can feed passive speakers through a separate MM phono stage and a power amplifier LINE/AUX input. The turntable cannot power passive speakers, and the phono stage must precede the amplifier. Compare the RPM 1 Carbon, RPM 3 Carbon and RPM 5 Carbon reviews. VT-E L White also needs an external MM stage before the amplifier line input when used with passive speakers; the amplifier, not the phono stage, provides speaker power. The exact L manual confirms the OM5E and phono-level route, but confirm the offered unit and its box contents in the VT-E L assessment.

Built-in turntable preamp

E1 Phono and E1 BT have switchable built-in MM stages when set to LINE; E1 Standard does not. The stage-equipped packages differ in wireless output, so compare the E1 Phono and E1 BT reviews rather than treating every E1 as the same signal path. Find models for this same built-in-stage condition.

The X2 B Quintet Red has no documented built-in stage, so it cannot meet a built-in-only requirement. The T2 W is a documented built-in-stage alternative; read the X2 B assessment for its separate MC-compatible receiver or external-stage routes. Find models for this same built-in-stage condition.

Sony PS-LX3BT, PS-LX5BT and PS-LX310BT have switchable MM stages: choose LINE for powered speakers or amplifier LINE/AUX, and PHONO only for a compatible receiver or external stage. Their Bluetooth feature is output, not a wireless input, and none contains speakers. T1 EVO Phono and BT also require LINE when their stage is used; Debut Reference 10 instead needs a receiver PHONO input or separate stage. Read the PS-LX3BT, PS-LX5BT, PS-LX310BT, T1 EVO Phono, T1 EVO BT and Debut Reference 10 assessments. Find models with a documented built-in phono preamp.

Documented built-in-stage paths include the switchable A1.2 MM stage, the T2 Super Phono when set to LINE, and the all-in-one AT-FTT Hotaru, whose internal speakers use its integrated phono equalizer and amplifier. The A1.2 and T2 Super Phono must be switched to PHONO to bypass their internal stages; the A2, Debut PRO B, Debut EVO 2 and T1 EVO Standard have no built-in phono stage. The LP5X and older LP7, AT-LP120XUSB pair, LP7X, LP70X pair, LP3XBT, LP60X variants, LPW models, RT80/RT81/RT81+ and Sound Burger also document internal-stage routes. U-Turn Orbit Basic, Plus, Special, Custom and Theory depend on the selected optional Pluto 2 configuration; Custom's Built-in choice and None choice are distinct plans. Orbit Plus Gen 1 likewise has separate Built-in SKU 160BKAOR5 and no-stage SKU 100BKAOR5. Hotaru's external RCA output is already-equalized LINE level, not PHONO. LP60X-PL and Sound Burger WH/YL are cosmetic variants, not additional functional packages.

Choose LINE for powered speakers or an amplifier line input, and PHONO for a compatible receiver input or external stage. Avoid double amplification. The AT-FTT Hotaru's internal speakers use its integrated phono equalizer and amplifier; for external playback its RCA output is line level and the manual calls for an external RCA cable to a LINE input. Its volume knob controls the integrated speakers but not outside speakers. The AT-SB727's built-in RIAA stage provides already-equalized 3.5 mm LINE output or a separate Bluetooth route; it has no PHONO-level output, speakers, or speaker power, so do not connect that line output to receiver PHONO. The manual LP5X and older LP7 include built-in selectable stages but still require manual cueing; the LP7 is not LP7X. All four LPW models use a manual tonearm; the LPW50BT-RW adds Bluetooth but still uses its analog selector for wired connection. The LPW comparison guide separates their cartridges, finishes, wireless feature and footprint. The Sound Burger review discusses its two wired/wireless paths and manual stop routine. The AT-LP5X, older AT-LP7, AT-LP120XUSB-BK, AT-LP120XBT-USB-USBBK, AT-LP7X, LP70X, LP70XBT, LP3XBT, LP60X, LP60XBT, LP60XBT-USB, RT80, RT81 and RT81+ assessments describe the other built-in routes. The LP120XUSB models add computer capture, and the BT-USB variant adds a separate wireless destination; neither changes the analog selector rule.

The VT-E L also has no documented built-in stage, so it cannot meet this requirement; its documented source bridge is incomplete for current U.S. package details. See the VT-E L White assessment.

Grounding and practical checks

Connect a separate ground lead if the exact turntable and phono stage provide one, and follow their manuals. Hum can also come from routing, cable placement, power supplies or other causes, so grounding alone is not a guaranteed cure. The RT82 review is an example of a deck that has RCA and ground outputs but no internal phono preamp; its maker describes both PHONO-input and external-stage arrangements. Check the rear-panel labels on every component before making the connection.

The earlier 1Xpression Carbon Classic / 2M Silver does not meet a built-in-stage-only request: its exact manual specifies phono-level RCA output and an external stage when no suitable PHONO input is available. Read the Carbon Classic signal-path assessment; find models with earlier configurations included that have a documented built-in phono stage.

Combine earlier-version scope with the phono connection

Choosing earlier=yes adds archived configurations; it does not remove current-reference models. The Juke Box E1 remains eligible under each phono-path answer: use Phono Out for a compatible receiver PHONO input or an external MM stage, and use its internal stage for fixed Line Out or onboard speaker outputs. Read the Juke Box E1 review. With earlier=yes, the T1 Phono SB contributes to the built-in-stage path in LINE mode and to receiver PHONO in PHONO mode; the current T1 White Edition contributes to receiver PHONO or an external-stage route but has no internal stage. The RPM 3 Blue Point No. 2 package also remains a current-reference receiver-PHONO option, not an earlier model, and still has no built-in stage. Their manual cueing remains a separate condition. Read the earlier SB assessment, current White Edition assessment and RPM 3 Blue Point No. 2 assessment, then find earlier-inclusive receiver-PHONO models or find earlier-inclusive built-in-stage models.

With earlier items included, VT-E L White remains in the receiver-PHONO result but not the built-in-stage result. Pro-Ject USA’s exact L manual documents the fitted OM5E and phono-level output; the U.S. dealer family page still does not identify a separate L White retail item or current offer. Read the VT-E L White assessment. Find earlier-inclusive models for the same receiver-PHONO route · Find earlier-inclusive models requiring a built-in stage.

With the earlier RT84 included, RPM 9 remains a possible receiver-PHONO or external-stage configuration only after a buyer installs a cartridge supported by that input; it is not a built-in-stage match. The historical toggle changes RT84 scope, not this current package. Read the RPM 9 no-cartridge assessment. Find earlier-inclusive results for the same receiver-PHONO route · Find earlier-inclusive models that require a built-in stage.

Including the earlier RT84 leaves all three current RPM packages in the receiver-PHONO result: the Rainier, Moonstone and Amethyst cartridges are MM, and each model has documented phono-level output. Review the RPM 1 Carbon, RPM 3 Carbon and RPM 5 Carbon. Find earlier-inclusive models for the same receiver-PHONO condition.

With the earlier RT84 included, all three current E1 packages remain in the receiver-PHONO result when their MM route is compatible. For the built-in-stage condition, only E1 Phono and E1 BT qualify when set to LINE; Standard has no internal stage, and the earlier RT84 is a separate no-stage configuration. E1 Standard · E1 Phono · E1 BT. Find earlier-inclusive models for receiver PHONO · Find earlier-inclusive models requiring a built-in phono stage.

With earlier=yes, the RT84 adds an earlier phono-level package for a compatible receiver PHONO input; it does not add a built-in phono stage. The current X2 B Quintet Red still requires an MC-compatible receiver input. Read its phono-system assessment · Find earlier-inclusive results for receiver PHONO · Find earlier-inclusive results requiring a built-in phono stage.

The earlier-inclusive receiver-PHONO route still depends on cartridge and input compatibility: the Sony trio uses PHONO, while phono-output Debut Reference 10 and current A2 connect directly to suitable inputs. The A1.2 and T2 Super Phono use PHONO to bypass their switchable stages. Read the PS-LX3BT, PS-LX5BT, PS-LX310BT, T1 EVO Standard, T1 EVO Phono, T1 EVO BT and Debut Reference 10 assessments. Find earlier-inclusive results for this receiver PHONO path.

When the turntable itself must provide a stage, the earlier RT84 does not qualify; the earlier toggle adds a phono-output reference package, not an internal preamp. Current stage-equipped Sony models need LINE selected, as do the stage-equipped T1 EVO packages. PS-LX3BT · PS-LX5BT · PS-LX310BT · T1 EVO Phono · T1 EVO BT. Find earlier-inclusive results requiring a built-in phono stage.

For a receiver PHONO input, current A2 uses its Rainier MM cartridge on the phono-level output; the Sony trio and switchable Pro-Ject A1.2 and T2 Super Phono need their selectors at PHONO. The earlier RT84's own page also specifies phono-level RCA output and a ground terminal, but no built-in stage. Orbit Custom and the other current Orbits require the exact None-stage configuration, while Orbit Plus Gen 1 uses Black / None SKU 100BKAOR5 for this path. Confirm cartridge/input compatibility and follow grounding instructions. Read the earlier RT84 assessment, and compare the Orbit Basic, current Orbit Plus, Orbit Custom, Plus Gen 1, Orbit Special and Orbit Theory.

The earlier RT84 has no built-in stage, so enabling it does not meet the turntable-preamp requirement. Current examples include the Sony PS-LX3BT, PS-LX5BT and PS-LX310BT when set to LINE and the A1.2 or T2 Super Phono with its stage enabled. The current Orbit models—including Custom—require their exact optional Pluto 2 stage set to Built-in; Orbit Plus Gen 1 requires Black / Built-in SKU 160BKAOR5. The Debut Reference 10, Debut PRO B, Debut EVO 2 and T1 EVO Standard are no-stage examples. A 2M Red cartridge still needs a compatible PHONO input or external stage when connecting to line-level equipment. Compare the current Orbit Basic, Orbit Plus, Orbit Custom, Orbit Special and Orbit Theory with the Gen 1 package and earlier RT84.

Selecting the historical RT84 does not displace the current E1.2 models: all four still support the receiver-PHONO route, while only Phono, BT and Colour can use their own stage on LINE. Keep earlier models and use receiver PHONO · Keep earlier models and require a built-in stage. Compare all four E1.2 assessments: E1.2 Standard · E1.2 Phono · E1.2 BT · E1.2 BT Colour.

The earlier-RT84 choice does not alter either VT-E connection path. With earlier configurations included, both VT-E right-hand packages still support receiver PHONO; only BT R qualifies for the built-in-stage path, using LINE for a line input. Include earlier models and use receiver PHONO · Include earlier models and require a built-in stage. Compare the VT-E R and VT-E BT R.

Choosing to include the earlier RT84 does not change the standard T2's receiver-PHONO fit: its Rainier MM output still needs a compatible receiver phono input. Read the standard T2 assessment. Find receiver-PHONO models with the earlier RT84 included.

Including earlier configurations does not change either RPM 10 package's receiver-PHONO route: the no-cartridge item needs an added pickup, while Starling requires low-output MC gain and a load above 100 ohms. Read the no-cartridge assessment and Starling assessment. Find earlier-inclusive models with the same receiver-PHONO condition. VT-E L White also remains in this earlier-inclusive receiver-PHONO result: its exact L manual confirms the OM5E and no-stage phono-level path, while the specific U.S. retail item remains unverified. The Elvis Artist Series / Rainier MM phono paths

The T1 White Edition / Pick it 2M White package also fits a compatible MM receiver PHONO route because its base-T1 output is phono level and it has no internal stage. The archived T1 Phono SB can use this route only with earlier=yes and its selector at PHONO. The RPM 3 Carbon / Blue Point No. 2 packages can use a compatible 47 kΩ/MM receiver PHONO input at the cartridge’s specified 2.5 mV output and standard 47 kΩ load; the deck itself has no built-in stage. The Signature 10 has no documented built-in stage; its receiver-PHONO plan is viable only after confirming the exact seller cartridge or fitting one whose generator and loading suit the input, because the item pages leave inclusion and type unstated. The exact Olive Xtension 10 item is a no-cartridge package with no built-in stage; after the buyer supplies a compatible pickup, a receiver PHONO input is suitable only if its loading and gain match that cartridge. Read the T1 White Edition assessment, the T1 Phono SB assessment, the RPM 3 Blue Point No. 2 assessment, the Signature 10 assessment, the Xtension 10 Olive assessment and the Elvis assessment; find models for this same receiver-PHONO condition or include earlier configurations under the same path · find this same receiver condition for Xtension 10 Olive. The Juke Box E1 also fits this route through its separate Phono Out to a compatible MM receiver PHONO input; that route bypasses its internal phono stage. Read the Juke Box E1 review and find models with this same answer.

The T1 White Edition needs a compatible external MM stage before powered-speaker LINE because it has no built-in stage; the archived T1 Phono SB can use the same external path only with earlier=yes and its switch at PHONO. The RPM 3 Carbon / Blue Point No. 2 packages have no built-in stage; route their phono-level output through a suitable 47 kΩ/MM-compatible phono stage before powered-speaker LINE. The Signature 10 also needs an external phono stage ahead of powered-speaker LINE; its exact cartridge is unreported, so confirm or provide a pickup compatible with that stage before treating the route as a complete setup. The exact Olive Xtension 10 package also lacks a built-in stage and a supplied cartridge: select a pickup and an MM/MC phono stage that suit each other, then send the stage’s LINE output to the powered speakers. Read the T1 White Edition assessment, the T1 Phono SB assessment, the RPM 3 Blue Point No. 2 assessment, the Signature 10 assessment, the Xtension 10 Olive assessment and the Elvis assessment; find models for this same external-stage / powered-speaker condition or include earlier configurations under the same path · find this same powered-speaker route for Xtension 10 Olive. The Juke Box E1 also fits when its separate Phono Out feeds a compatible external MM phono stage, then powered-speaker LINE. Read the Juke Box E1 review and find models with this same answer.

For passive speakers, the T1 White Edition needs an external MM phono stage before an amplifier LINE/AUX input; the amplifier then drives the speakers. The T1 Phono SB can take the same route with earlier=yes and its selector at PHONO. For passive speakers, the RPM 3 Carbon / Blue Point No. 2 packages need a suitable 47 kΩ/MM-compatible external stage before amplifier LINE/AUX, and the amplifier must drive the speakers. The Signature 10 can use this arrangement only with a buyer-confirmed compatible cartridge and external stage before amplifier LINE/AUX; the amplifier still has to drive the passive speakers. The exact Olive Xtension 10 item can use this chain only after a compatible cartridge is chosen and fitted: place its cartridge-matched external MM/MC stage before amplifier LINE/AUX, then use the amplifier to drive passive speakers. Read the T1 White Edition assessment, T1 Phono SB assessment, RPM 3 Blue Point No. 2 assessment, Signature 10 assessment, Xtension 10 Olive assessment and Elvis assessment, then find models for this same external-stage / amplifier / passive-speaker condition or include earlier configurations under the same path · find this same passive-speaker route for Xtension 10 Olive. The Juke Box E1 also fits through Phono Out to a compatible external MM stage, then amplifier LINE/AUX and passive speakers; its internal power amplifier is not used in this route. Read the Juke Box E1 review and find models with this same answer.

The current T1 White Edition and Elvis / Rainier package do not meet the built-in-stage-only requirement. The RPM 3 Carbon / Blue Point No. 2 packages likewise do not meet the built-in-stage-only requirement because the deck has phono-level output and no internal phono preamp. The Signature 10 also does not meet built-in-stage-only: its manual routes the signal to a separate phono preamplifier, and the exact seller cartridge remains unspecified. The exact Olive Xtension 10 package has no built-in stage, so a suitably wide shelf cannot make it fit a built-in-stage-only signal path. The T1 Phono SB does have a switchable MM stage, but it is excluded from this current-only answer unless earlier=yes is selected; under that explicit option, choose LINE for powered speakers or an amplifier LINE/AUX input. Read the White Edition review, RPM 3 Blue Point No. 2 review, Signature 10 review, Xtension 10 Olive review and earlier SB review; compare T2 Super Phono and E1.2 Phono, then find current-reference models for this same built-in-stage condition or include earlier models under the same path. The Juke Box E1 qualifies through its internal phono stage to fixed Line Out and powered-speaker LINE, or through its onboard 2 x 50 W/4-ohm amplifier and speaker outputs to a compatible passive pair. Speakers are not included, and its Line Out is fixed-level. Read the Juke Box E1 review and find models with this same answer.
