A useful fit for

A strong candidate when the listener wants a manually adjusted deck that can use a conventional receiver PHONO input today while keeping a true-balanced upgrade route available with the required external cable and stage. It also supports 78 RPM after a belt change.

The main tradeoff

There is no built-in phono preamp, no automatic arm handling and no documented record-end platter stop. Balanced cabling and the record puck are separate checks, the 78 mode requires changing belts, and VTA/azimuth adjustments invite setup decisions rather than removing them.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the Debut PRO B connect to an ordinary receiver PHONO input?

Yes, through the included RCA/ground phono cable when the receiver's PHONO input matches the Pick it PRO Balanced MM cartridge. The mini-XLR path is an additional balanced phono output, not a line-level output and not a built-in stage.

Can I connect the Debut PRO B directly to powered speakers?

Not to a line-only input by itself. It has phono-level outputs and no built-in preamp, so add a compatible MM phono stage before powered speakers. A receiver's PHONO input is an alternative when using an amplifier/receiver with passive speakers.

What changes are needed for 78 RPM records?

The U.S. manufacturer information and manual include a round 78-RPM belt, while the flat belt is for 33/45. The user changes belts; the model does not provide an automatic record-start or arm-return routine. Verify the current box contents and keep the cartridge/stylus suitable for the records being played.

The Pro-Ject Debut PRO B is a manual belt-drive turntable whose most distinctive feature is the combination of a conventional RCA/ground phono output and a separate balanced mini-XLR phono output. The balanced connector is not a built-in preamplifier and does not turn the deck into a line-level source. That distinction matters more than the letter B in a listing title: the U.S. package uses a Pick it PRO Balanced moving-magnet cartridge, and a buyer should match the signal path and included cables to the equipment already on hand. This is an evidence-based review of documented configuration, not a hands-on test.

Two phono outputs, no internal stage

The current Debut PRO B manufacturer page and its model-specific manual distinguish this package from the older Debut PRO. The standard RCA connection with ground is a phono-level route to a compatible receiver or integrated amplifier's PHONO input. If the system uses line-input powered speakers, a separate moving-magnet phono stage must go between turntable and speakers. The mini-XLR output is another balanced phono connection for compatible downstream phono equipment; it is not a LINE output, and the matching mini-XLR cable is not included in the U.S. package information. The record puck is also listed separately. Buyers choosing the balanced route should check the full cable and phono-stage chain before budgeting around the connector alone.

The U.S.-branded product sheet identifies the satin-black package and Pick it PRO Balanced MM cartridge. Its RCA route allows an ordinary compatible PHONO input, so the balanced path is an option rather than a prerequisite. A setup can therefore start with RCA/ground and a receiver's phono stage, or use a separately assembled balanced phono chain. Do not connect the RCA or mini-XLR phono outputs to an ordinary line input without an appropriate stage. Check that the receiver's input supports a moving-magnet cartridge and follow the supplied grounding instructions. The maker's exact package identification matters: an earlier Debut PRO or a global color edition is not automatically the same product.

A 78-RPM belt change is a real capability, not automation

The flat belt and electronic selector cover 33⅓ and 45 RPM; the U.S. information and manual describe a separate round belt for 78 RPM. The user changes to that belt, so this is a useful feature for a mixed record collection but not an instant electronic third speed. Confirm that the correct belt is present in a used or open-box package. Also check that the cartridge and stylus are appropriate for the specific 78 records being played; speed support alone does not establish a complete shellac setup.

The tonearm is operated manually with a lift lever. The manual includes careful adjustment steps for tracking force, anti-skate and other setup variables; these are reasons to read the instructions rather than assume the deck arrives ready to use in every system. The electronically controlled platter speed does not start a record, cue the stylus or return the arm. The product page and manual reviewed here do not specify an automatic platter stop, so that status remains unknown rather than being treated as either a confirmed feature or a proven absence. If hands-off end-of-record behavior is required, this is not a verified match.

Footprint and practical checks

The manufacturer page and U.S. product information list a body width and depth of about 16.34 × 12.60 inches, with a height of 4.45 inches on those records. The matching manual gives a slightly different height, 118 rather than 113 mm, while its width and depth agree. These are published body dimensions, not a measurement of required shelf clearance. Leave room for rear cables, the dust cover and access to the tonearm and speed belt. The balanced cable is a particularly important accessory check because its absence can change the cost of using the mini-XLR route.

The Debut PRO B is most compelling for someone who appreciates the option of balanced phono wiring but still wants a conventional RCA/receiver path available. It also stands apart from the simpler Debut EVO 2 in its balanced output and included 78 belt, while both remain manual decks without a documented internal stage. A buyer who wants a line-ready turntable without extra components should instead look for an exact model with a verified built-in preamp. Before purchase, check the full model suffix, cartridge, both belts, RCA/ground cable, power supply, dust cover and condition; confirm separate balanced cable and puck needs; and make sure manual setup is welcome. No price, stock or listening-performance claim is made here.

White Edition: same system route, separately verified finish

White Pro-Ject Debut PRO B White Edition with platter and tonearm
White Edition image linked from its U.S.-facing item page; appearance only, not a package or availability record.

The White Edition is a separate finish/edition entry rather than the unrelated Debut A1.2 White package. The U.S.-facing listing identifies the White Edition and its pre-mounted Pick it PRO Balanced moving-magnet cartridge; the official February 2025 product sheet confirms that cartridge, the mini-XLR phono option and the shared 33/45 plus separate 78-belt behavior. The published 415 × 113 × 320 mm body dimensions match the covered black PRO B package. No finish-dependent operating difference appears in the reviewed sources, so this same PRO B assessment covers the white variant without treating its exact U.S. item page and image as interchangeable with the black one. Confirm the White Edition name, cartridge and accessories in the actual offer; its item-page image does not prove current stock or package condition.
