Pro-Ject T1 White Edition (Pick it 2M White package) review

A manual belt-drive T1 White Edition with a pre-mounted Pick it 2M White moving-magnet cartridge, manual belt-position changes for 33/45 RPM and no built-in phono stage. Use a compatible MM receiver PHONO input or an external MM phono stage before line-level speakers/amplifier.

A useful fit for

A source-supported fit when a white T1 with the included 2M White MM cartridge suits a manual phono-level setup and the system has a compatible MM PHONO input or a separate stage.

The main tradeoff

There is no built-in phono stage, speed change requires moving the belt, and the exact lead detachability, body dimensions and net weight have conflicting family/retailer evidence. No automatic arm action, platter stop or 78-RPM capability is established.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the T1 White Edition connect to my receiver PHONO input?

Yes, if the receiver input supports moving-magnet cartridges. The base T1 output is phono-level and there is no internal phono stage; use a compatible MM PHONO input and follow the ground instructions.

Explore this need in the finder →
What if my speakers only have a normal line input?

Add an external MM phono stage between the T1 and a line-input powered speaker pair. For passive speakers, the stage must feed an amplifier LINE/AUX input; the turntable does not power speakers.

Does the White Edition change speed by button, or return the arm automatically?

No. Pro-Ject documents a manual belt change between 33 and 45 RPM and manual cue operation. The inspected materials do not establish auto-stop or 78-RPM playback.

The T1 White Edition is a distinct white-finish package built on Pro-Ject’s original T1 platform, not one of the later T1 EVO Standard, Phono or BT models. Its strongest practical point is the fitted Pick it 2M White moving-magnet cartridge and a simple manual belt-drive layout. Its main limitation is equally important: this White Edition has no built-in phono stage, so it needs a compatible receiver PHONO input or an external phono stage before ordinary line-level powered speakers or an amplifier. This is a source-based assessment of the manufacturer’s White Edition materials, T1 family instructions and the exact U.S.-facing item record—not an ownership, listening or bench test.

Start with the signal route, not the finish

The White Edition’s cartridge sends a low-level phono signal. The exact U.S. retailer item identifies the supplied Pick it 2M White; Pro-Ject’s own product sheet describes it as a moving-magnet pickup. A receiver or integrated amplifier can accept that signal directly only if its PHONO input supports a moving-magnet cartridge. In that arrangement, the turntable’s signal goes to PHONO and the receiver supplies the phono equalization and amplification. If your system has no compatible PHONO input, place a separate MM phono stage between the deck and the line input on powered speakers, an integrated amplifier or a receiver. The turntable itself does not amplify passive speakers.

Do not confuse the original T1 White Edition with T1 EVO Phono. The EVO Phono adds a switchable internal stage and a LINE/PHONO selector; the White Edition product sheet and the original T1 manual describe the base T1, not that stage-equipped variation. Treat a listing that calls this White Edition “built-in preamp” as a package discrepancy to resolve before buying. Also ask the seller to confirm the specific included cartridge and condition rather than relying on a family name or a stock photograph.

Manual speed change and manual cueing

The manufacturer identifies a belt drive and two speeds, 33⅓ and 45 RPM. On the base T1, changing between them requires moving the belt between pulley steps; the Phono SB’s electronic speed selector belongs to a different configuration. This is a small but recurring setup task if you switch record formats often. The published material does not document 78 RPM capability or a 78-RPM kit for this White Edition, so do not infer it from the two-speed listing.

Playback is also manual. The shared T1 manual illustrates installing the platter and belt, raising and lowering the arm with its cue lever, and manually placing the belt for 45 RPM. It does not establish automatic start, arm return or a record-end stop. If that routine is acceptable, the design keeps the control scheme straightforward; if you need hands-off end handling, select a model with the specific automatic function documented. A manual cue lever is useful for lowering the stylus carefully, but it is not an automatic mechanism.

What the 2M White package does—and does not—tell you

The Pro-Ject White Edition sheet identifies the pre-mounted Pick it 2M White as an MM cartridge with an elliptical stylus and lists 17.5 mN as its pre-adjusted tracking force. It also lists a one-piece 8.6-inch aluminum arm, steel platter, felt mat, dustcover and a semi-symmetrical low-capacitance phono cable. Those are manufacturer-stated package details rather than independent performance measurements. The sheet’s speed-variation, wow/flutter and signal-to-noise figures should be read the same way: published specifications do not establish how an individual unit performs in a room or after wear.

The seller’s detailed configuration block describes a removable RCA lead, while Pro-Ject’s shared base-T1 manual calls the tonearm signal lead captive and the setup guide says a detachable Connect it E cable is included only with T1 Phono SB and T1 BT. Because the exact sources conflict, this review does not promise that the White Edition’s lead is detachable. Confirm the physical connection and included cable in the exact package if replaceability or routing is important. The documents also do not establish current stock or the condition of any individual unit.

Allow for dimensions and conflicting family data

Pro-Ject’s White Edition product sheet lists 415 × 100 × 335 mm (W × H × D), approximately 16.34 × 3.94 × 13.19 inches. The shared family manual instead gives 420 × 112 × 330 mm and 5.0 kg, while the White Edition product sheet gives 3.8 kg. Those are conflicting manufacturer-published figures; the finder therefore uses a conservative body-only envelope of 16.54 inches wide and 13.19 inches deep, and leaves weight unresolved. This is a screening boundary, not a physical measurement or a guarantee that the deck will fit a shelf.

Leave extra room for the dustcover to open, hands to reach the arm, the cable bend and ventilation around nearby equipment. A nominal 16.5-inch-wide shelf is not accepted by the conservative width screen; a 17-inch cap clears the published envelope but still says nothing about usable clearance. If lifting weight matters, check the exact carton or ask the manufacturer or seller to reconcile the 3.8/5.0 kg disagreement before installation.

Who should keep this version in view

Consider this package if you want the original manual T1 arrangement, a named 2M White MM cartridge and a white finish, and you already have a compatible PHONO input or are prepared to add a separate phono stage. Pass if an internal preamp, electronic speed switching, automatic arm handling or verified auto-stop is essential. The same T1 family name covers meaningful differences: T1 Phono SB has a switchable built-in MM stage and electronic speed selection, while the later EVO Phono is another model with its own cartridge and dimensions. Keep those functions out of a White Edition comparison unless the specific seller package proves them.

Before deciding, verify the item says T1 White Edition rather than T1 EVO; confirm the 2M White cartridge, actual finish, signal lead and included accessories; check the exact phono route and the space limits above; then verify the box contents and seller’s return terms. The image below is tied to the exact White Edition item page and shows the finish/model appearance only—it does not establish the condition or contents of a particular unit.

Evidence limits

The product-specific White Edition sheet is the primary source for its cartridge, dimensions and published technical data. The shared original T1 manual and setup guide clarify base-T1 belt changes and arm handling but contain some family-level specifications that conflict with the product sheet. The exact U.S.-facing seller page establishes the White Edition / 2M White package bridge, not live availability, quality, or a complete U.S. Pro-Ject catalogue. See the Pro-Ject T1 White Edition page, its product information sheet, the T1 / T1 Phono SB / T1 BT manual and the observed U.S.-facing item page.
