A useful fit for

A documented reference option when full automatic play, Bluetooth transmission, a switchable phono stage and a USB recording path fit the system and a 17 x 14.5-inch body can be accommodated.

The main tradeoff

The RCA lead is fixed, the cartridge is not documented as a replaceable body, Bluetooth is transmitter-only, and USB is a limited computer-recording route rather than playback. Current U.S. seller availability is not established by Sony's similar-products control.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the PS-LX310BT use a receiver PHONO input?

Yes, select PHONO so the built-in equalizer is bypassed, and verify the receiver's PHONO input is compatible with the factory MM cartridge. Its RCA cable is fixed to the deck.

Can I use it with powered speakers or an amplifier LINE input?

Yes, choose LINE to use the built-in MM stage and connect the fixed RCA lead to an analog line-level input. Powered speakers amplify themselves; passive speakers still need an amplifier.

Does its USB connector play audio back from a computer?

No. The USB Type-B connection is for recording records to a computer, not computer-to-turntable playback; the separate micro-USB service/firmware port is a different connector. Sony says capture is not hi-res.

Will a 14.5-inch depth cap include working space?

No: Sony publishes a 14.5-inch body depth, but that does not reserve room for the cover to open, cables to bend or controls to be reached. Measure operating clearance separately.

Sony's PS-LX310BT remains listed in the manufacturer's current U.S. turntable category, while its U.S. product card presents a “See similar products” action rather than a direct add-to-cart button. That is a useful model-reference signal, not proof of current stock or discontinuation. The reviewed U.S./Americas model is a two-speed belt-drive turntable with one-touch automatic playback, Bluetooth transmission, switchable phono/line output, USB computer recording and a fixed RCA cable. This assessment uses the exact U.S. manual, current support pages and product record; it does not claim a listening test, ownership or a seller offer.

Push-button start and end handling

The PS-LX310BT is documented as fully automatic: pressing START initiates playback, then the arm returns and the platter stops at the end. A separate UP/DOWN button allows the arm to be raised and manually repositioned. This is a useful distinction for a listener who wants automatic operation but may need to choose a different groove; it is not a traditional cue-lever design. Confirm record-size selection and follow the manual's belt and setup steps. The documented record speeds are 33⅓ and 45 RPM only. It does not play 78s, and the automatic feature should not be treated as a promise that every unusual record edge will be handled exactly as expected.

Choose PHONO or LINE, not both

The built-in MM phono equalizer can be bypassed. Set the output switch to PHONO for a compatible receiver PHONO input or a separate phono stage. Choose LINE for powered speakers or an amplifier/receiver AUX/LINE input. In the powered-speaker case the speakers must have their own amplification; the turntable has no built-in speakers. Passive speakers also require an amplifier. If using the external-stage path, connect the turntable's PHONO output to an MM-compatible stage, then connect that stage's line output to powered speakers or to an amplifier driving passive speakers. Avoid sending LINE into a second phono stage. The rear analog lead is attached to the unit, so cable length and bend radius should be checked before placing it on a shelf. Sony's model specifications do not list a separate ground terminal.

Bluetooth output and its limits

The Bluetooth radio transmits the record's sound to compatible speakers or headphones; it is not an audio receiver for a phone, laptop or television. Sony support lists SBC and aptX for the PS-LX310BT. The receiving product still needs its own volume control and suitable amplification. Pairing success, latency, volume and supported codecs depend on that receiver, so confirm the intended playback device rather than reading “Bluetooth” as universal compatibility. Analog PHONO and LINE remain available for wired inputs. If a wired connection matters, remember this model's RCA lead is fixed and cannot be swapped at the rear panel like the PS-LX5BT's detachable cable.

Recording ports can be easy to confuse

USB Type B is for recording from the turntable to a computer; it does not provide computer audio playback through the deck. Sony says the supplied USB cable and recording software are not included, and its support materials do not describe high-resolution capture. Use the current Sony FAQ for operating-system support rather than assuming that every system named in the older 2019 manual is still supported. The manual also shows a separate micro-USB port inside the turntable for firmware/service use. That port is not the USB recording interface. If digitizing records is a major need, check the right port, computer connection, cable, current software support and the workflow needed to monitor or organize recordings.

Fit and exact-package checks

Sony publishes the body at 430 × 108 × 367 mm, about 17 × 4⅜ × 14½ inches. At a 17-inch width cap or 14.5-inch depth cap the body just meets the stated limit; those figures do not provide clearance for cover motion, controls, the fixed cable or installation tolerance. Measure the cabinet and leave working space. The manual lists a die-cast aluminum platter, external 12 V / 0.8 A adaptor, dust cover and belt setup; confirm the actual included adaptor, cable, mat, belt, stylus condition and exact model code in any individual offer. The exact-model image here is retailer media from a U.S. product page labelling PS-LX310BT; it shows the black turntable with its lid raised. It is a visual identity reference, not proof of current availability or box contents.

Compared with the newer PS-LX3BT and PS-LX5BT, the PS-LX310BT shares a switchable phono stage, automatic routine and Bluetooth output, but it has an integrated RCA lead and a separate USB recording path. The LX5BT's documented detachable connection makes cable replacement different; neither detail establishes which deck sounds better. The PS-LX310BT is a possible fit when 33⅓/45 playback, automatic start/return/stop and a built-in phono/line choice matter. Look elsewhere for 78-RPM playback, a user-swappable cartridge body, Bluetooth input, USB playback, hi-res capture or detachable RCA sockets. Check the exact receiver or speaker input, stylus part, cable reach and model-specific U.S. adaptor before purchase. The sources are Sony's U.S. product page, specifications, U.S./Americas manual and current U.S. support FAQ. No price or current seller stock is asserted.
