AT-LP120XUSB and AT-LP120XBT-USB setup: analog, USB and Bluetooth

The AT-LP120XUSB and AT-LP120XBT-USB share a wide direct-drive platform and a fully manual tonearm, but they are not the same package. This guide follows each U.S. model's own manual and keeps their connection capabilities separate. It is a paper setup checklist, not a claim that either deck has been assembled or used here. Read the manual supplied with the exact unit, especially for a resale package or a regional adapter.

Set the deck up before connecting power

Both manuals describe an assembly and adjustment sequence. Set the unit on a flat, level, stable surface; avoid placing it beside speakers or another source of strong vibration. Seat the platter on its spindle, add the felt mat, attach the headshell and counterweight, and secure the arm as the manual shows. Balance the arm, set the supplied cartridge's standard 2.0 g tracking force, then set anti-skate to the same value. Keep the stylus guard on while handling the headshell, and do not drag the stylus across the platter or record during adjustment.

Before choosing a shelf, compare the published body dimensions—17.80 inches wide, 13.86 inches deep and 5.57 inches high—with the actual surface. Add space for a cover to open or be removed, cable bends, arm movement, control access and ventilation. The manual's body dimensions are not an operating-clearance diagram. Each model weighs about 8 kg without its cover, so the support should be stable as well as wide enough.

Choose one analog signal route

Both turntables include a switchable phono stage and an RCA cable with ground. Use PHONO when connecting to a compatible receiver or integrated-amplifier PHONO input; connect the ground lead as the receiving equipment requires. Use LINE when connecting directly to powered speakers with a line input or to an amplifier/receiver AUX/line input. A separate phono stage can be used with PHONO output before powered speakers or an amplifier driving passive speakers. In that arrangement, confirm that the downstream device receives line level from the separate stage.

Do not combine the routes accidentally: LINE into PHONO can produce an incorrectly amplified signal, while PHONO into a plain AUX/line input can be too low. The turntable does not have speaker drivers or the power amplifier needed to run passive speakers. Before attaching cables, read the input labels on both devices and follow their manuals.

AT-LP120XUSB: wired analog plus computer capture

The black AT-LP120XUSB-BK assessment covers the model without Bluetooth. Its manual offers the PHONO/LINE analog routes above and a separate USB connection to a compatible computer. For USB capture, the manual instructs the owner to select LINE and use the included USB cable. The manufacturer specifies 16-bit conversion at selectable 44.1 or 48 kHz and a USB 1.1 computer interface. Check the computer operating system and recording application before purchase; the turntable does not include a computer, software workflow or finished digital files.

USB is not the same path as RCA speaker playback. If the goal is listening, connect to an amplifier or powered speakers using the matching analog selector setting. If the goal is recording, connect the computer and configure recording software separately. Owners should not assume that a USB link will automatically monitor through their wired speaker system.

AT-LP120XBT-USB: add a compatible wireless receiver

The AT-LP120XBT-USB-USBBK assessment covers the black Bluetooth model. It adds wireless sending to the USB-only model's wired and computer options. The manufacturer lists Bluetooth 5.0, A2DP and SBC/aptX-family codecs; the manual says to select LINE for Bluetooth and pair with a compatible receiver. Read the receiving speaker or headphone manual and check its supported profiles/codecs. A listed codec does not guarantee that every receiver will pair or use it.

Bluetooth and USB answer different needs. Bluetooth sends audio wirelessly to a paired receiving device; USB connects the deck to a computer for digital capture. The Bluetooth model's U.S. specification lists USB 2.0, while the USB-only model lists USB 1.1. Neither connection changes the manual cueing procedure or powers passive speakers. Keep a wired RCA route available if wireless pairing is not the intended everyday path.

Manual playback, speed and end-of-side routine

Both models list 33⅓, 45 and 78 RPM. The manual shows choosing a speed before playback; 78 RPM is selected by using both 33 and 45 controls together. Their tonearms are manual, not automatic. To play, the owner starts the platter and moves the arm over the record, lowering it with the lift lever or by hand as described. At the end, raise and return the arm, secure it at the rest and press START/STOP. Neither manual documents automatic end-of-record arm return or platter stop. If you want a hands-off start/end cycle, compare a reviewed fully automatic model instead.

Although the speed selector includes 78 RPM, each package lists an AT-VM95E cartridge with an elliptical LP stylus rather than a 78-specific stylus. Confirm a suitable stylus and care procedure before playing shellac discs; the speed control alone does not establish stylus compatibility.

What to verify in a used or open-box listing

Compare the item code and color with the U.S. product page: this work verifies the black AT-LP120XUSB-BK and black AT-LP120XBT-USB-USBBK images. The manufacturer page also exposes silver AT-LP120XUSB-SV and white AT-LP120XBT-USBWH options, but their exact images remain a separate unresolved research gap. Check that the offer matches the black configuration assessed here if using these images and reviews.

Confirm that the platter, felt mat, dust cover and hinges, counterweight, AT-HS6 headshell with a sound AT-VM95E stylus, 45 adapter, stylus light, USB cable, grounded RCA lead and correct external adapter are present. Ask whether the tonearm and stylus are undamaged; verify the power adapter label and plug for the actual unit. For Bluetooth, confirm pairing with the intended receiver; for USB, confirm computer and software support; for analog use, check PHONO versus LINE compatibility. No source page establishes that a resale offer includes every advertised piece.
