Comparison

AT-LPW30, LPW40WN, LPW50PB and LPW50BT-RW: what's different?

Four similarly named Audio-Technica LPW turntables can support a manual, wired listening system, but their supplied cartridge, tonearm, finish and wireless output are not interchangeable. This guide compares the individually reviewed U.S. configurations by the documented task they serve. It is a research guide—not a listening comparison.

AT-LPW30BK: conical stock stylus and analog-only simplicity

The reviewed AT-LPW30BK package uses a straight aluminum arm and AT-VM95C cartridge with a bonded conical stylus. It is fully manual, supports 33⅓ and 45 RPM, and has a selectable phono stage with RCA output. The U.S. catalog/model documentation has a veneer wording difference, so the review sticks to the confirmed black edition and does not claim a particular wood grade. Start with the LPW30 assessment if you want to check its exact cartridge and package.

AT-LPW40WN: VM95E cartridge and carbon-fiber arm

The LPW40WN is a separate walnut-look package with a straight carbon-fiber arm and VM95E bonded elliptical stylus. It retains manual cueing, two speeds and selectable PHONO/LINE output. Its manufacturer manual distinguishes it from the LPW30TK, which uses a different arm/cartridge package; the U.S. BK LPW30 is reviewed as a third identity. See the LPW40WN assessment for the setup and connection checks.

AT-LPW50PB: piano-black chassis without wireless output

The LPW50PB has the VM95E/AT-HS4 package, selectable analog output and a piano-black 30 mm MDF plinth. It is taller and heavier by its published specification than the LPW40WN. Its reviewed feature list does not include Bluetooth or USB; a similar family number is not evidence of wireless support. Start with the LPW50PB review when you want a wired, manually operated setup.

AT-LPW50BT-RW: Bluetooth added, arm operation unchanged

The U.S. LPW50BT page describes the rosewood-finished AT-LPW50BT-RW. It retains the manual, two-speed layout and VM95E cartridge, adding Bluetooth 5.2 with A2DP/SBC alongside RCA. The manual instructs you to choose LINE for Bluetooth pairing and to place the device within 1 m during pairing; it cautions that not every external Bluetooth device is guaranteed to work. Bluetooth sends audio to a compatible powered receiver, speaker or headphones, but does not add an amplifier for passive speakers or automate the tonearm. See the LPW50BT-RW review.

Separate the setup questions

All four reviewed packages provide a switchable built-in phono stage, so the same analog rule applies: PHONO goes to a compatible receiver PHONO input or separate phono stage; LINE goes to AUX/line or powered speakers with line input. Do not confuse this stage with speaker amplification. The turntable itself does not drive passive speakers.

All four require manual cueing. Their listed speeds are 33⅓ and 45 RPM only, and the reviewed instructions describe the listener lifting and returning the arm and turning the control to stop. None of these configurations should be selected for automatic start, end-of-record arm return, platter auto-stop or 78 RPM on the evidence reviewed. Only the LPW50BT-RW adds a documented Bluetooth output; no LPW model here is documented for USB capture.

Check body fit and the operating envelope separately

Audio-Technica publishes bodies around 16.53–16.54 inches wide and 13.38–13.39 inches deep. These figures describe the listed turntable body, not cable bends, hand access, arm movement or cover clearance. Measure your shelf before choosing a numeric cap and reserve extra room to use the unit. A nominal body fit does not guarantee comfortable operation.

Every package still requires setup and accessory checks: platter/belt and mat, counterweight, headshell and stylus, ground/RCA cable, external adapter and cover/hinges. Used offers need model-specific itemization. An LPW50PB case/finish is not an LPW50BT-RW wireless guarantee, and an LPW30TK manual entry should not be used to identify the U.S. LPW30BK.

Manufacturer references: Audio-Technica U.S. turntable catalog; U.S. LPW40WN/LPW30TK manual, LPW50PB manual, and LPW50BT English manual. The LPW30 BK review links its exact BK manual and U.S. catalog separately.
